Keep what still protects you. Change what now costs you.

A practical way to change habits that no longer serve you, while keeping what still helps. For people and teams.

Where habits like this come from

  1. 01

    Something went wrong.

  2. 02

A protection was added, often for a good reason.

  3. 03

The danger changed. The protection stayed and became normal.

  4. 04

Now it costs time, energy, trust or money.

Most protections were sensible when they started. The work is to keep the part that still matches the risk, replace the rest, and carry the lesson forward.

A manager who still re-reads every email before it goes out, years after one went badly. A team that still copies the director on everything since the restructure.

I still ___ when under pressure.

We still ___ when under pressure.

Under pressure, people and teams stop choosing and take the line they already know. Whatever fills the blank is where the work starts.

How it works

  1. 01

    Name it.

Complete the Default Line privately and choose the one habit that costs most.

  2. 02

    Trace it.

What went wrong, what protection was added, and what has changed since.

  3. 03

    Cost it.

How often it happens, the time it takes, and one consequence you choose to track.

  4. 04

    Replace it.

Keep the part that still protects you. Write two simple rules you can remember, and set a review date.

We count on Day 1 and again on Day 30, and check in at Day 90. Personal measures are self-reported, and we say so.
